What is likely happening
Pressure that drifts outside the normal range can come from a failing fill valve, an expansion tank that has lost its air charge, a leak, or a stuck gauge. The right fix depends on which one it is.
What you can safely check
- Compare today's reading with the normal cold and hot readings from your log.
- Tap the gauge lightly; a stuck needle is common.
- Look for water at the relief valve discharge.

- Gauge accuracy

- Fill and pressure-reducing valves
- Relief valve

Gauges and relief valves are checked at inspection. A missing or unreadable gauge can be written up.
