What is likely happening
No output can come from a tripped low-water cutoff, a failed igniter or pilot, a faulty thermostat or aquastat, a stuck circulator pump, or a safety lockout. A lockout is usually a safety device doing its job, and repeatedly resetting it can be unsafe.
What you can safely check
- Confirm the boiler has power and the emergency switch at the boiler room door is on.
- Check the thermostat setting and that the boiler display shows a call for heat.
- Note any error code or lockout light before anyone presses reset.
What an inspector will look at
- Ignition and flame proving
- Low-water cutoff operation
- Operating and limit controls
- Circulator pumps and zone valves
Does this affect compliance?
A boiler that repeatedly trips its safety controls may have a defect that has to be corrected and documented before it is signed off at its next required inspection.
