What is likely happening
Compressed air receivers corrode from the inside because moisture collects at the bottom. External rust or pinhole leaks can mean the wall has thinned, which is dangerous because a stored-air vessel can fail violently.

- Check whether the tank is drained of condensate regularly.
- Look for a data plate showing the maximum working pressure.
- Keep people away from a visibly corroded tank while it is pressurized.
