Insparisk is a certified third party agency for elevator inspections in Pennsylvania. We are hiring QEI-certified inspectors ahead of the December 2026 change to 34 Pa. Code Chapter 405, which requires a certified UCC Elevator Inspector to witness Category 1 testing.
Pennsylvania is about to need more certified elevator inspectors than it has. At the end of December 2026, Chapter 405 makes the Category 1 test a stand-alone annual test and requires that it be witnessed by someone certified as a UCC Elevator Inspector. There are roughly 171 people holding that category in the Commonwealth today, against roughly 16,363 registered devices.
Insparisk is listed as a certified third party agency for elevator inspections in Pennsylvania, covering all counties. We are building the inspector bench now rather than in December, and we would rather hire people and get them settled than scramble in the fourth quarter.
This is inspection work, not construction work. You are not pulling a machine or running a crew. You are inspecting, witnessing tests, writing them up accurately, and being the person a building owner and a jurisdiction can both rely on. If you hold a QEI and you are tired of the tool bag, this is the trade-off this job offers.
What you will do
- Perform periodic and acceptance inspections on elevators, escalators and related conveyances under ASME A17.1 and A18.1
- Witness Category 1, Category 3 and Category 5 testing and document the results accurately
- Work directly with building owners, property managers and elevator service companies to schedule and complete inspections
- Write clean, defensible reports the same week the inspection happens
- Flag conditions that are genuinely unsafe, and be willing to hold that position with an owner who does not want to hear it
- Keep your certifications current and your documentation audit-ready
What you need
- Current QEI certification (ASME QEI-1) from an accredited certifying organization
- Pennsylvania UCC Elevator Inspector certification, or eligibility to obtain it
- Working knowledge of ASME A17.1-2016 and A18.1-2017
- Valid driver licence and willingness to travel within the region
- The judgment to make a call in the field and write it down clearly
Nice to have
- Pennsylvania UCC Passenger Ropeway Inspector certification
- Experience as an IUEC mechanic or adjuster
- Experience inspecting for a third party agency or an AHJ
- Certifications in additional states, especially New York, New Jersey or Maryland
